What you need to know
What is the First Insights community?
First Insights is an online group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples from around Australia, where members take part in paid research opportunities.
Once I've joined the community, how do I take part in research projects?
You will be invited to participate in research projects via email, as and when they become available. Your participation in each project is voluntary and you do not have to accept an invite if you do not wish to. However, payments are only made to people who have completed a research project.
Research formats can include online surveys, telephone surveys, or face-to-face discussions and interviews.
What sort of topics will you cover?
Research topics typically include important social issues, such as reconciliation, diversity and community engagement. They are as culturally safe and appropriate as possible.
Who is the research for?
Our research clients encompass commercial, government and not-for-profit sectors in Australia.
When will I get paid, and how much will I get paid for taking part in research projects?
We offer incentives for participation in each research study. The fee depends on the length of time we estimate is required for you to complete the research, and will typically be between AU$5 and AU$10 per survey.
How do I update my details or leave the community?
If you wish to leave the community just click on the unsubscribe link in any email invitation we send you.

Our website design
The First Insights logo and embodied design, by Gubbi Gubbi and Torres Strait Islander artist Lili Jacobsen, reflect the support that helps voices rise. Like ripples or echoes, dotted and line patterns show how connection and backing can amplify an individual's impact.
Symbols in a range of skin tones represent the richness and diversity within communities. These figures are shown gathering around places that feel safe and welcoming, spaces where stories are shared, ideas exchanged, and presence is honoured.
Lili explains, "A flowing red and yellow wave made of dots represents the movement of stories and knowledge. It travels between people, passed on, heard, and felt. It serves as a reminder that shared wisdom strengthens community and deepens understanding."
Lili Jacobsen specialises in polymer clay earrings and sculptures, as well as digital artwork, paintings and ceramics. Lili draws inspiration for her artworks from the beauty and power of Australian flora and fauna, and also from her Indigenous Australian heritage. Each piece she creates holds a part of her spirit, energy, and story, making her handcrafted artworks uniquely special and precious.
For this design, Lili was working with Iscariot Media, a First Nations design agency commissioned by First Insights for this project.
